Physical therapist
For my first job shadow I went to the Caldwell hospital and showeded Joe Halling. Joe Halling is a professional Physical therapist at Caldwell Hospital. The day consisted of me watching him work on his patients. Most of the patients had a lot of back and shoulder problems. He did sonar therapy to loosen up the muscles and ligaments. I learned how to use sonar and what it does. I also learned that it takes a lot of patience with the patients. Joe and I talked about how many years it will take for me to be a therapist, what colleges are the best, and what diploma I should get. This is a career I would love to pursue for my life long job. |

My second job shadow was located in Wichita, Ks shadowing Alicia Ybarra. I started the day helping resize a wedding dress. I was then asked to tack lace on a beautiful quinceanera dress. Then the young lady that owns the quinceanera dress came in and we help her get fitted into her dress. After the young lady left, I started to make a bridal skirt. The bridal skirt was green and yellow for john deere theme. The lady’s at the shop was impressed with my skills that I got an internship at the end of the day. |
Career Report
Since I was little, I've known that I wanted to go into the medical field. It wasn't until my freshman year that I decided on being a physical therapist. When I hurt my knee in eighth grade, I had to do physical therapy and I fell in love with the job. You get to work with people and help them get back to the sports they love. Career cruising said I should take the path of medical science and rehabilitation.
The courses I have to take to pursue my career choice are very challenging. Most of the classes are science, like biology, human anatomy ,and physics. While researching physical therapy, I’ve learned that you have to have training in patient psychology to help the person cope with the injury. The years in college required are four years to get my undergraduate degree. Then another three years at a DPT (Doctor Physical Therapy) program. The colleges I’m looking at are Friends University and Fort Hays University. Friends University for a bachelor's degree tuition and fees is ranging from $13,000 to $36,387 since its private Christian college. Fort Hays schooling expenses will be $13,783 and the fees are $26,675. Medical field expenses are really high and so is the living. That's why I’m already filling out scholarships and grants.
The annual salary for physical therapist $84,020 a year. In Texas, physical therapist earn a median salary of $90,620 and the salaries typically start from $61,980 and go up to $141,430. In Florida, the average physical therapist median salary is $83,570 per year. The salaries in Florida typically start at $54,210 and go up to $122,240. Other information that I found is the living cost. Tampa, Florida to rent a house each month is $950 outside the Centre and $1,297 inside the Centre. Galveston, Texas a studio apartment for one month its $665.

Was It The Right Choice?
The biggest choice I had to ever make was leaving Argonia to go to Caldwell.
Not only was I leaving my friends, I was leaving the only place I ever knew. It was very hard and exciting at the same time. I kept asking my mom why couldn't I stay. At that time, I was too young to understand what was going on and what was best for my brother and me.
What I didn't know when I was younger is that my brother was being bullied. My brother wasn't the tallest or strongest kid in Argonia. It was very hard on both of us. He couldn't beat up the bullies, but he could pick on his little sister. I got tougher and I have to thank my brother for making me stronger and helping me stand up to my own bullies.
This wasn’t only a choice; it was also a change and a challenge to go to a new school where no one knows you. I wish I could say I felt welcome, but it was far from it. I got here and everyone didn't know what to think of me. Luckily, I wasn't the only new student; I didn't have anyone neither did she. We didn’t become best friends until years later. It was a challenge to be accepted to be like them. I didn't have their last names, so I definitely wasn't accepted.
In the end, it was a good choice to move to Caldwell. Garett got all caught up with his math and received help with anything he needed. To be honest, my family didn’t think he would graduate or be where he is today without moving to Caldwell. As for me, I'm grateful we did, I've gotten a lot of chances that’s going to give me a way better future. Cadwell does in fact have a lot of sports I got to play in. This made it a lot better to be here.
